Every summer PPEHRC holds a volunteer internship program for high school and college students interested in social and economic justice. This is a great opportunity to work in a grassroots setting and learn from seasoned leaders about organizing for economic human rights.
For Summer 2015 – Interns’ primary responsibilities will center on preparations for the Philadelphia US Social Forum (USSF) occurring June 25th-28th for those starting in June. The USSF is a convergence driven by the understanding that people’s movements are what create social change. USSF related tasks will include managing communications technology and social media, getting students and other populations involved in the USSF process, and connecting with local organizations and artists. Interns will also have opportunities to work on PPEHRC’s urban farm, organize fundraising efforts, and be involved with home defense and anti-foreclosure work.
Participants in the summer internship program will live with PPEHRC host families in North Philadelphia if housing is needed. The program runs from June 16 to August 1, but the actual dates of your attendance can be tailored to fit your availability.
