1st Study Potluck: APRIL 9th, 6-8 PM
1505 W. ALLEGHENY AVE, PHILADELPHIA 19132

We will be bringing and sharing food, and starting our study circle and self education at our office in the United Steelworkers building.

This session topic will be “MAKING KINSHIP IN A DIGITAL AGE”
Alison McDowell will talk about some of the materials below to get the discussion going.

We’ll learn a bit about neoliberal non-profit apps, like GoalMama and UpTogether’s Hustle Score, that use tech to ostensibly promote “community” while tracking the behaviors of the poor.

Then, we’ll read excerpts from Chapter 2 of Joyful Militancy (sections “What Can Friendship Do,” and “Solidarity Begins At Home” see here).

We’ll contrast tech-mediated kinship with other forms of relationship building, sharing insights about past, present and anticipated future friendships and how deepening those ties can sustain help sustain us in the days ahead.
